Adventurous First Day!
Well, what a day yesterday was! Where do I begin?
The airplane ride from JFK to London was just fine… except for the fact that we were delayed for about an hour getting off the ground, because there was so much air traffic. The airport was more packed than normal…even doing a fast bag drop (since I checked in online) was ridiculous. The woman yelling out “7am flights, come forward!” was annoucing this around 6pm…they should have started doing that much sooner! (I was there at 5:30, should have been plenty of time.) Anyway I got up there, dropped off my bag (one of which was 5 pounds too heavy, so I had to take my Futurama DVDs out and put them in my carry on bag), and was on my way to security. The “see you laters” (I refuse to call it a goodbye) was emotional of course, I was crying like a baby, but my family and I are ok
I’m glad to have their support in this, and of course I’m thankful for everything they’ve done for me.
So I hurry and get onto the plane, and sit, and go through the flight as I’ve done tons of times in the past. But this one was finally the last one I’ll have to do for a while.
I cried a bit more, got a good heavy cry in, and finally was…well…ok. A bit sad, a bit excited, and a bit numb. But ok. I ate my snack and dinner, watched the movie “NameSake” which was good, and slept through the rest of the flight. It seemed to go pretty quickly. Finally landed in London, said a quick “Thank you Lord” and smiled. I finally did it.
So, onto my adventure. The limo driver drove me to Reading, where I’m staying for a few weeks to help out my company in their small office. We pull up to the hotel, and there is tons of water around. SO much water in fact, that they limo driver calls the hotel and asks them where to drop me off. Turns out I had to take a TRACTOR to the hotel lobby! I stared off and sure enough, a big ol’ tractor with HUGE wheels and trailer bed comes to where the Mercedes is that I was just driven in. I am thinking in my head “You’ve got to be kidding me” as I start climbing up this small ladder onto the top of the bed where there are picnic benches with little towels for me to sit on. Hmm…well…this is fun. I took a picture of course…
Needless to say, that was funny. I get to the hotel, drop my bag off, take a nap and have a co-worker pick me up and get to the office. First day was good, got alot accomplished event though I was very tired. Later on, my boyfriend comes to see me, and sadly, he didn’t get to ride the tractor into the hotel
We drove into the side street, where he parked the small civic hatchback onto the road… all the cars are so small here that they can do that
Later we went to the Reading town centre, where we ate at Chili’s (yes I know, out of all places why there?? Eh it was familar for me the first day, I’ll be having different food for months), and walked around the shopping area even though everything was closed. The water leve was really high, but it didn’t affect us.
So that was my adventure for the first day…I can’t wait to see what else will happen…I’ll be sure to update the blog and suppliment with pictures. Today the water around the hotel was almost gone, so I can’t complain. I’m worried to see if the floods continue, especially if I need to go into London for work at Sky Sports.
